Deep in the southland where racial danger clings
Arose a great great man named Dr. Martin Luther King.
For the freedom of his people through a bill called civil rights
This great great man began to dedicate his life.
A preacher and a teacher with nerves as strong as steel
This great great man dedicated himself to do God’s will.
Though thrown in jail and beat upon and called unworthy names
The cause for which this man did fight won international fame.
Yet in their pride as day draws nigh and a victory far from won
With tears in their eyes as they gaze upon high saying
“We shall overcome.”
